kohler lawnmower engine takes a while to start.?
I am working on a craftsman lawn tractor with a kohler engine. I have just changed the spark plug, oil, fuel filter and battery. Every time that I start the engine for the first time it takes a lot of cranking to get it started, then you have to leave it on low throttle for a few seconds before you put it to full throttle. After that it runs great and starts great as many times as you turn it on and off. It has no choke to pull, but does have a transfer pump on the opposite site of the engine that the carb is on. Does anyone have an idea where the problem could be?
There are four possibles:
1) you have an air leak, making he mixture too weak (tighten all the carburetor nuts or bolts.
2) The fuel filter is blocked (change the fuel filter) and thus not enough fuel getting through to start the engine easily.
3) The spring that closes the choke is broken or missing. This works on the principle that as the engine runs faster the choke opens and weakens the mixture for warm running.
4) The transfer pump might be defective, or, the pump’s gaskets might be perforated.
